FAQ

Should I stretch?

Stretching is about as customized as your training should be. Specifically, you should be stretching tight muscles and joints, and limit overstretching areas that aren’t in need of it.

Generally speaking it's ideal to start with dynamic stretching and mobility work before a workout or event, and save static stretching for after the workout or event.

Do diets work?

No they don't!  The only way to attaining lasting results with your weight management is to change your lifestyle by eating clean and exercising regularly.

As a woman, if I lift heavy weights, will I get big and bulky?

No.  Most women don't have enough testosterone in their system to get 'big and bulky'.  Most female bodybuilders that you see in magazines are usually taking extra supplements and have extremely low body fat to acquire that 'manly' look.

How often should I meet with a personal trainer?

This will depend upon your goals, how quickly you want to achieve them, your schedule and time available to exercise, and your budget.  When considering the cost, be sure to remember that this is your health and there is nothing on earth that is more important.  without your health, you have nothing.

On average, most clients do best when they meet with a trainer 2-3 times per week.  Anything less than that many people will slack off and not get nearly as much out of it.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when determining how often you’ll meet with your trainer:

  • How fast do you want to achieve your goal and see results? The more frequently you meet with your trainer the faster you’ll see results and achieve your goals and there are several reasons for this: consistency, accountability, motivation, guidance, you’ll work much harder with your trainer than on your own, etc.
  • How much experience with exercise do you have and how much do you really know?  Think about it, if you don’t know taxes, are you going to try to figure it out yourself or have someone help you? Why leave your fitness results to chance?
  • Most clients we work with start out meeting with their personal fitness and lifestyle consultant 3 times per week and then will gradually decrease the frequency as they progress and learn more, and feel more comfortable and confident on their own.

What areas do you service?

Excel Fitness and Lifestyle Consultants train clients in-home, in some workout facilities, and in our training studio in Stratford. We also train clients at the St. Mary's YMCA, South Huron Fitness Center in Exeter, and in-home in Stratford, St. Marys, Exeter, Mitchell, London, and surrounding area

Do I need equipment to work out from home?

No, nearly all of our in-home clients have little or no equipment at all and get amazing results. All you need to sufficiently work your muscles is your own body weight, a stability ball, some "weight" (i.e., dumbbells, water jugs, etc.).  A lot of our in-home clients will also invest in a TRX suspension trainer, if desired.

Are your consultants certified? Insured?

Yes, all of our personal trainers hold multiple certifications, and/or degrees. We carry a comprehensive insurance policy, and we have both male and female personal trainers available.
